01 / For every Tech Mahindra candidate

The process, start to finish.

Tech Mahindra is best known for hiring entry-level engineers in India, mostly as Associate Software Engineer, through campus drives and off-campus drives. This playbook covers that fresher track first. It also briefly covers the experienced-hire track for IT and developer roles, which public sources describe in much less detail. Business process services (BPS) and other non-engineering hiring is a separate track and is not covered.

Most recent prep sites and both candidate write-ups describe a five-stage fresher process, and the online tests and the communication test are described as elimination filters: 1. An online aptitude test with an English essay. 2. A combined technical and psychometric test: programming and CS multiple-choice questions, two coding problems (one prep site describes the Automata Fix style, where most of the code is pre-written), and a personality questionnaire of about 72 items. 3.

An AI-scored spoken English communication test (one candidate names it the SVAR test). 4. A short technical interview built around the resume, projects, OOP, DBMS/SQL and OS basics. 5. A short HR interview on motivation, relocation, shifts and flexibility about domain. Sources do not fully agree. FACE Prep (2026), Jobrise and CCBP describe four-stage versions with no AI communication test, and InterviewBit lists the psychometric test as an optional, non-elimination step.

The timeline follows the five-stage version and notes the alternatives. Drives also differ, so the notice for your own drive governs. Top test performers may be offered an optional SuperCoder coding challenge for a higher package. Selected candidates then get a Letter of Intent, background verification and an entry-level training program. Experienced hires are described differently: a recruiter screen, then two or three technical rounds, sometimes a client round or client-style discussion, then HR.

Tech Mahindra does not publish an interview evaluation framework. The careers pages (careers.techmahindra.com and techmahindra.com/careers) have slogans and application steps only (for example "Do good while you do well") and describe no hiring stages or assessment criteria. The TechM Way page lists six culture pillars but says nothing about how candidates are assessed, so it is not treated as an interview framework. No evaluation framework is therefore listed here.

Most of the evidence comes from coaching and prep sites, which overlap heavily with one another. Two first-hand candidate write-ups (GeeksforGeeks) are also used. Glassdoor, AmbitionBox, Indeed and Naukri Code360 candidate reports are not drawn on.

Stage 1:

Application or campus drive registration (fresher track)

varies

Freshers come in through campus drives, where CareerIndia advises coordinating with the college Training and Placement Officer, or through off-campus drives. Sources disagree on where off-campus candidates register: one prep site names registration.techmahindra.com, while FACE Prep (May 2026) and Internshala point to the careers portal at careers.techmahindra.com. Experienced candidates apply through the careers site, recruiters or referrals. Timing depends on the drive calendar, drive volume and the college; FACE Prep reports about one to four weeks from application to a shortlisting call.

Stage 2:

Round 1: Online aptitude test plus English essay

about 60-80 minutes (sources differ)

The test covers logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude and sometimes verbal ability, plus an essay or story of roughly 200-400 words, sometimes written from a picture. One prep site gives 12 logical and 12 quant MCQs at 15 minutes each, an optional 15-minute verbal section in some campus drives, and 15-25 minutes for the essay. Another site says about 60 minutes in total; a third says about 80 minutes for roughly 75 questions. FACE Prep describes an ELQ online test with aptitude, technical and communication sections, followed by a picture-based story writing assessment. Negative marking is reported in recent drives by two sites, while Jobrise says there is none (its description is an AMCAT-based test with sectional cutoffs). Most sources call the online tests an elimination filter, but one page says the essay component is not elimination-based in all drives.

Stage 3:

Round 2: Technical and psychometric test

about 90 minutes

One prep site lists four parts: a personality questionnaire (72 items, 15 minutes), programming MCQs (12 questions, 15 minutes), CS MCQs (12 questions, 15 minutes; OS, DBMS, networks, DSA) and two coding problems in 45 minutes. That site says about 70 percent of the code in the coding section is pre-written (Automata Fix style) in C, C++, Java or Python, and Weekday lists fix-the-function questions. The campus candidate report instead describes two relatively simple problems (maximum of an array, counting words and spaces) with 45 minutes allowed. The same prep site says this is the stage where most rejections occur. InterviewBit lists the psychometric test as a separate, optional, non-elimination step followed by a separate technical written test.

Stage 4:

Round 3: AI-based spoken communication assessment

about 20 minutes

The test is spoken into a microphone and scored automatically. Reported tasks include listen-and-repeat, reading aloud, fill-in-the-blanks, error correction, comprehension questions on a listened paragraph and a short narration on a topic (about 45 seconds on one site, about a minute on another). One candidate names it the SVAR English test. Designgurus says candidates describe it as an elimination gate, Placement Preparation labels it an elimination stage, and in that candidate's batch 7 students were eliminated at this step. FACE Prep, Jobrise, CCBP and InterviewBit do not describe an AI communication test, so not every drive may include it. The 20-minute figure comes from one source.

Stage 5:

Round 4: Technical interview

about 15-45 minutes

Usually one interviewer, sometimes a panel (FACE Prep describes two interviewers, usually senior engineers or team leads). Typical content: self-introduction, resume and academic projects, OOP, DBMS with live SQL, OS and networking basics, and small coding or logic tasks such as reversing a number or writing a palindrome program. Reported lengths: 15-20 minutes (Designgurus), 20-40 minutes (Jobrise and FACE Prep), and 15-45 and 30-45 minutes (two Placement Preparation pages). In the campus candidate report the technical interview eliminated roughly 15-20 students.

Stage 6:

Round 5: HR interview

about 5-30 minutes

Covers self-introduction, motivation for Tech Mahindra, career goals, strengths and weaknesses, willingness to relocate and work shifts, flexibility about domain, and salary expectations. Reported lengths: 5-10 minutes (Designgurus), 10-20 minutes (Jobrise) and 15-30 minutes (Placement Preparation and FACE Prep). In one candidate report the technical and HR interview are both dated November 11, so they appear to have been on the same day, and 59 of the 92 candidates eligible at that stage were selected.

Stage 7:

Optional SuperCoder challenge (top test performers)

about 90 minutes

Placement Preparation describes two coding problems on HackerEarth, 90 minutes, invited by email. Jobrise gives no duration or format and describes it as an email invitation to top AMCAT performers. Designgurus describes a coding-first route reached from the standard drive, followed by a technical interview, with two problem statements in one candidate's report. Prep sites say clearing it raises the fresher offer from about INR 3.25 LPA to about INR 5.5 LPA. Figures vary by drive. The 90-minute figure comes from one source.

Stage 8:

Offer: Letter of Intent, background verification, onboarding and training

varies

Selected candidates get a Letter of Intent by email, then third-party background verification (academic credentials, KYC documents, address), then phased onboarding into the entry-level training program. Estimates of the total time from test to offer conflict: Jobrise says 2-4 weeks, InterviewBit says 2-3 months. Designgurus reports separate waits of about a week for online test results, about fifteen days to the interview call, about a week after the technical interview and about ten days after HR, and says to plan for several weeks. Placement Preparation gives no end-to-end figure.

Sources conflict on overall duration

Stage 9:

Experienced track: recruiter screening

varies

Hyring describes the recruiter screen as a phone or video call that checks role fit, shift, location, salary, notice period, communication and basic eligibility, and says experienced hiring often starts there. Designgurus lists it as the first stage but gives no detail, and InterviewBit says experienced candidates may be interviewed directly and may skip the first few rounds at the recruiter's discretion. No source gives a duration; it varies by role and account.

Stage 10:

Experienced track: technical rounds and client round

about 30 minutes per technical round

Designgurus reports two or three technical rounds of about 30 minutes each. For backend roles the reported topics are Java collections, multithreading, Spring Boot, exception handling and design patterns. Designgurus also describes a client round where the client team asks about your experience and the technology stack of the account. Hyring does not list a separate client round; it describes a technical or project round (one-on-one, panel or client-style discussion) that evaluates project ownership, stack depth, support diagnosis, network basics or process understanding. The number of rounds varies by account and role.

Stage 11:

Experienced track: HR round

varies

Hyring lists motivation, stability, joining timeline, compensation, documents and background consistency for the HR round, its FAQ adds location and notice period, and it says public reports often include background checks as a stage. Designgurus lists HR as the final stage and says lateral candidates report longer waits, including background verification. No source gives a duration.
