01 / For every Stryker candidate

The process, start to finish.

Stryker is a medical technology company (orthopaedics, MedSurg, neurotechnology, Mako robotics). This playbook follows the field medical device sales track first (Sales Associate, Associate Sales Representative, Sales Representative), because Stryker's careers blog has dedicated sales-recruiter and medical-device-sales guidance and prep sites carry sales-specific question sets. It adds engineering notes (R&D, software) where sources allow.

Stryker publishes one cross-role hiring flow on its careers site and careers blog: online application, a phone or Teams interview with a Talent Acquisition Business Partner (recruiter), a hiring manager interview, a strengths-based Gallup interview with a trained analyst, and then a series of final interviews with team members, virtual or on site. A selection decision, verbal offer, formal offer letter and background check follow.

Stryker gives approximate gaps between stages (for example 1 to 3 weeks from application to recruiter call, and 1 to 2 weeks from Gallup to finals) and says timing varies by location. Counting the stages, that is four interview steps, and the final step is itself a series of interviews whose number Stryker does not state.

The Gallup interview is the distinctive gate: Stryker says strengths feedback goes to the hiring manager and recruiter, and that after the assessment they decide on next steps. Stryker's March 2022 LinkedIn version adds that they review it together with your resume and their phone-call notes; the current careers blog (published October 2023) does not repeat that detail. Sales candidates also report field ride-alongs and scenario or role-play rounds, but Stryker's published process does not include them.

Stryker publishes its mission and four values (Integrity, Accountability, People, Performance) and a separate set of four culture items, but neither is presented as interview criteria, and there is no public interview scoring rubric and no published list of Gallup criteria, so no evaluation framework is included here. Glassdoor, Indeed and similar review sites are not drawn on, so candidate-reported detail is thin and most sample questions come from prep sites.

Stage 1:

Online application

About 3-25 minutes to complete; Stryker aims to respond within about two weeks

Apply online only, with a separate application for each role. The careers blog says a status update comes within about two weeks depending on application volume; the 2022 LinkedIn version says high-volume roles can take several weeks.

Stage 2:

Recruiter (Talent Acquisition Business Partner) phone or Teams interview

30-60 minutes; about 1-3 weeks after applying

Covers your background, skills and interest in the role, with time for your questions. The recruiter emails to schedule it if your resume fits.

Stage 3:

Hiring manager interview

30-60 minutes; about 3 days to 1 week after the recruiter call

Phone or video. The current careers blog says it focuses on your technical skills, experience and the responsibilities of the role. Stryker's 2022 LinkedIn version adds how you like to work and the kind of team you prefer, and says you can ask the manager about their team and the role. Interview Kickstart mentions work style and teamwork, and for software roles reports live coding and questions on programming and computer science fundamentals at this stage.

Stage 4:

Gallup strengths interview

30 minutes to 1.5 hours; about 1 day to 1 week after the hiring manager interview

A trained analyst asks strengths-themed questions by phone or a web platform. Feedback reaches the hiring manager and recruiter within a few days. JobTestPrep and an Extern internship guide describe it as a StrengthsFinder-style assessment that compares your top themes with the role profile, and Interview Kickstart says the result decides whether you move to the next interview. A secondhand Blind reply from February 2020 says a co-worker at a company Stryker acquired failed the Gallup and could not move into an engineering role. These claims are from prep sites and anecdote, not from Stryker.

Stage 5:

Final stage interviews (series with team members)

About 1-2 weeks after the Gallup interview; the 2022 LinkedIn version says scheduling may take a few weeks

After the assessment the recruiter and hiring manager decide on next steps; Stryker's 2022 LinkedIn version says they review your resume, their call notes and the Gallup feedback. The finals are a series of virtual or on-site interviews with team members, and on-site rounds may involve travel arranged by a Candidate Care team member. Stryker does not say how many interviews there are or who sits on them. Interview Kickstart says software candidates meet the hiring manager and department heads and lists data structures, Java, design patterns and system design as topics; that is not from Stryker.

Stage 6:

Sales-only: field ride-along and scenario or role-play round (candidate-reported)

varies

No source gives a duration or a fixed place in the sequence. A scraped page of older Glassdoor-style reviews mentions a 'ride along' with no detail and, in one May 2015 Denver report, two role-play scenes given 48 hours ahead after an initial in-person interview. Stryker's careers blog, careers page and sales-recruiter posts do not mention these rounds.

Not part of Stryker's published process; evidence is a single scraped compilation of older reviews that also carries promotional text and unrelated links

Stage 7:

Selection decision

About 3 days to 1 week after final interviews

The hiring team aims to decide within a week, and the recruiter calls to share feedback and the outcome.

Stage 8:

Offer and background check

Offer about 3 days to 1 week after selection; background check up to 3 weeks (the 2022 version said up to 2 weeks)

A verbal offer comes first, then a formal letter to review and sign by a set date. Background and other preboarding checks start after you sign.

Stage 9:

Onboarding

varies

Stryker gives no duration. You set a start date and orientation with your recruiter or HR business partner, and Stryker says its process timing varies by location.
