How Roblox Interviews in 2026: Process, Questions & What They Score
Compiled from 17 public sources: candidate interview reports, coaching guides, and Roblox's own hiring pages. Interview processes change and vary by role, team, level, and region. This is one well-documented shape of Roblox's interviews to prepare against, not a script of what your interview will be. Confirm specifics with your recruiter. SupaCV is not affiliated with or endorsed by Roblox.
Roblox is best known for hiring software engineers for its platform, game engine, infrastructure and machine learning teams, and this dossier covers that engineering track. Roblox also publishes a separate Product Design loop (portfolio review plus four themed interviews), which is noted where it differs. Roblox publishes a detailed candidate hub at careers.roblox.com/interviewing-at-roblox that names the stages, states what each assessment looks for, and sets an explicit rule against LLM use. That page opens with the caveat that the exact process depends largely on the role and the team, then lists five parts: Recruiter Fit and Interest, Hiring Manager Interview, Technical Assessment (Engineering Only), Onsite Interviews, and Final / Leadership Interview. An older official engineering blog post (2022) describes the same loop under different stage names (Getting to Know You, Demonstrate Your Skills, Meet the Team, Creative Problem-Solving and Values Interviews, The Finish Line); the current hub is used as the primary structure here and the blog is cited where it adds detail. Roblox does publish a values framework: four core values on its official Values and Principles page, and a named list of focus areas for the Hiring Manager Interview. The two published lists are used here as the framework. Roblox does not publish a scored rubric or level-by-level bar, and it publishes no duration for any interview round, so every duration below is third-party. Early career candidates hit a different front door: a battery of Roblox-built, game-based assessments is the first step, which Roblox itself calls your first interview. Confidence is medium rather than high: the process and framework are verified against official pages, but most of the reported coding questions rest on a single coaching site each, and only one genuine candidate write-up could be fetched.
The Process
- 1
Application, or the early career assessment battery · varies
Standard applicants apply through the careers site and go straight to the recruiter call. Early career applicants instead complete a series of assessments, which Roblox describes as your first interview. Roblox states these cover Problem solving (game-based tasks built on Roblox), Decision making (workplace scenarios), and Coding skills (a coding evaluation alongside an assessment on algorithmic reasoning, sent to all technical applications). Roblox says candidates can take them all at once or pace them out over a week, that extensions can be requested, and that results come back within a few weeks while assessments are calibrated. Roblox offers two free, untimed practice games: Kaiju Cats, which mirrors the assessment Roblox calls Robots and Factories, and Coding Cookies, which mirrors the block-coding interface used in the assessment Roblox calls Outpost: Mars. Roblox's July 2025 newsroom post on the assessment describes challenges like designing a factory workflow or building robots and says the assessments are standardized and validated, with no single scoring dimension. The 2022 official engineering blog describes the intern and entry level version as tasks in a 3D interactive environment built on Roblox, with no right or wrong answers. One candidate report describes the technical version as just over two hours: two CodeSignal problems at about LeetCode Medium, a factory simulation game, a build-a-car game, and 23 situational judgment questions in 25 minutes. Roblox says the assessments span marketing, data science, software engineering and product management.
- 2
Recruiter Fit and Interest Call · About 30 minutes
Roblox describes this as a brief conversation to understand your qualifications, confirm the role aligns with your career goals, and answer your questions, and frames it as a two-way fit check before the interview process starts. Roblox explicitly recommends downloading the platform and signing up for a free account before this call. Third-party guides put it at about 30 minutes and add that compensation expectations and location or in-office alignment come up here. Duration is from coaching sites, not from Roblox.
- 3
Hiring Manager Interview · varies
Roblox says the recruiter schedules this meeting if the role seems like a good fit. Roblox names six areas to prepare for: Experience, Technical breadth and depth, Project management, Leadership, Agility, and Motivation. The page tells candidates to bring specific past projects including the decision-making process and the results achieved, and to come with their own questions. No duration is published. Coaching guides generally do not break this stage out at all, folding it into the recruiter or onsite stage, so its placement as a separate step before the technical assessment rests on the official hub alone; the hub's onsite section confirms the order by saying you already met the hiring manager earlier.
- 4
Technical Assessment (engineering only) · 60 to 90 minutes
Roblox states you complete either a coding assessment or a systems design assessment at this point, both run to evaluate core computer science fundamentals plus problem-solving and logic. The coding version is one or two questions, done in CodeSignal in the language you are most comfortable with, and Roblox says the interviewer supplies the IDE link live. Roblox also says system design questions will most likely come up in later stages when you meet the broader team, but may sometimes appear in the technical assessment, so the first assessment is usually coding. The 2022 official engineering blog says the same: for most people a coding exercise, and for some higher-level roles a system design exercise or a take-home project instead. Roblox names its criteria for this stage as Communication, Problem-solving ability, Curiosity, Keep it real, and Knowledge of our product. Roblox states that front-end roles get front-end coding and machine learning roles get modeling basics, personalization, computer vision or natural language understanding. The 60 to 90 minute figure comes from coaching sites, not Roblox.
- 5
Onsite Interviews · About 4 to 7 hours
Held on Zoom or on a Roblox campus. Roblox says the typical engineering onsite is: a deeper Hiring Manager Interview, whichever technical assessment you did not already do (some roles repeat one), a Project Deep Dive for Machine Learning and Senior Engineering Manager candidates, and, for management positions only, two further interviews on Project and People Management and on Leadership. Roblox says the recruiter shares the exact schedule in advance. The 4 to 7 hour range comes from three coaching sites (tryexponent, interviewing.io, leetcodewizard); techprep describes it as a half-day of three to four back-to-back rounds, and interviewing.io breaks it into two coding, one to two system design and one to three behavioral hour-long interviews. The 2022 official engineering blog says the team interviews are usually done in two rounds but sometimes in a single onsite, which matches the hub describing the Final / Leadership Interview as a second round. Product Design candidates instead get a 45-minute portfolio presentation of two case studies, plus Design Practice and Execution, Planning and Collaboration, Technical Acumen, and Product Thinking interviews.
- 6
Final / Leadership Interview · About 60 minutes
Roblox's hub describes this as a second round following the initial onsite round. You meet leaders for discussions on two areas: Vision (your growth potential and how your career goals align with Roblox long-term goals) and Values (what energizes you, how you handle setbacks, how you balance team impact, personal growth and practical considerations, and your ability to learn from experience, embrace feedback and turn insights into measurable results). Roblox points candidates at the RDC 2024 keynote, the Values and Principles letter from the CEO, and its Safety and Civility material to prepare. Several coaching sites call this stage a bar raiser with a senior leader from outside the hiring team and describe a technical problem Roblox has faced or an open-ended prompt. That name is third-party, but the open-ended framing has an official root: Roblox's 2022 engineering blog describes a Creative Problem-Solving and Values Interviews round as a highly conceptual problem-solving exercise with no right or wrong answers, explicitly not a technical challenge. The current hub does not mention a problem-solving exercise in this stage. The 60 minute figure is from coaching sites.
- 7
Hiring committee review and offer · varies
Roblox engineering describes a hiring committee stage where senior leaders from across engineering review the complete candidate packet (resume, hiring manager summary, interviewer feedback) and make the final decision, so the decision is not the hiring manager's alone. Total process length is reported inconsistently: the official Roblox engineering blog tells candidates to allow at least two weeks for the full process, while coaching sites report 3 to 5 weeks, 4 to 6 weeks, and 6 to 8 weeks (one adding up to three months for some candidates). Treat the total as varying by level, team and region.
Evaluation Framework
Roblox core values, plus the published Hiring Manager Interview focus areas
Two published lists, both copied verbatim and both re-verified against the official pages in this pass. The first four items are the complete set of Roblox core values from the official Values and Principles page (letter from CEO David Baszucki, April 18, 2024): Respect the Community, We are Responsible, Take the Long View, Get Stuff Done. The same page also carries six organizational principles (Fairness, Belonging, Diversity, Hiring, Leadership, Shaping the Future) that describe how Roblox runs its workplace and hiring rather than how a candidate is scored, so they are not included here. The last six items are the complete list of areas Roblox tells candidates to prepare for the Hiring Manager Interview on careers.roblox.com/interviewing-at-roblox: Experience, Technical breadth & depth (rendered with an ampersand on the page), Project management, Leadership, Agility, Motivation. Roblox's published definitions: Experience covers roles held, scope and scale of projects managed; Technical breadth & depth covers how your technical skills let you work across teams; Project management covers planning, executing and delivering projects and how you mentored or led teams; Leadership covers how you influence others, mentor colleagues and drive initiatives; Agility covers learning from experience and adapting to new situations; Motivation covers what excites you about Roblox and your aspirations for growth as a leader. Roblox also publishes per-stage criteria that are not item lists in the same sense and are quoted in the timeline instead: Communication, Problem-solving ability, Curiosity, Keep it real and Knowledge of our product for the technical assessment, and Clarification, Understanding, Approach, and Scale, debugging, and monitoring for systems design. For management roles the onsite adds two focus areas, Project & People Management and Leadership. Roblox does not publish a numeric rubric, a scoring scale, or a level-by-level bar. Note that some third-party guides refer to five Roblox values, and one names Build with Heart as a core value; that item does not appear on the official values page and is not used here.

Coach's Tips
Read the official interview hub at careers.roblox.com/interviewing-at-roblox before anything else. Roblox publishes its own stage list, its assessment criteria, a do and do-not list for coding, and a worked example system design prompt. Candidates who skip it are guessing at things Roblox has already written down. The page is client-rendered, so if a text-only fetch comes back empty, open it in a browser.
Take the LLM rule literally. Roblox states that use of LLMs to solve or assist in solving technical interviews will disqualify you from consideration for engineering roles, and it lists writing code, identifying algorithms or data structures, debugging, writing tests and system design as covered. Looking up syntax or a standard library is allowed, but Roblox expects you to say out loud why you are looking it up, for example that you have not used a queue type in Java in a while. Announce any resource before you touch it.
Plan for both a coding round and a system design round across the process, not one or the other. Roblox says you do one of the two at the technical assessment stage and whichever one you did not do at the onsite, that some roles repeat one, and that system design usually lands in the later rounds. Roblox's engineering blog adds that some higher-level roles get a system design exercise or a take-home project instead of the first coding exercise, so confirm the format with the recruiter.
Use Roblox's own story structure rather than plain STAR. The careers hub asks for Situation, Approach, Action, Outcome, Learnings, with Approach covering why you chose that path and the alternatives you considered, and Learnings covering the principle you carried forward. The Learnings beat in particular is where candidates lose points by stopping at the result.
Prepare the Final / Leadership Interview as two separate conversations, Vision and Values. Roblox names the four values it will probe (Respect the Community, We are Responsible, Take the Long View, Get Stuff Done) and points candidates at the CEO letter on Values and Principles, the RDC 2024 keynote and its Safety and Civility material. Bring one story per value and one clear answer on where you want your career to go. Roblox's engineering blog also describes an open-ended, conceptual problem-solving conversation with no right answer, so be ready to structure an ambiguous problem out loud.
Actually play Roblox before the recruiter call. Roblox tells candidates at least three times on its own hub to download the platform, sign up for a free account, play a game, and explore the product from the perspective of the role you are applying to, and it names Knowledge of our product as an assessment criterion. Early career candidates should also run both free practice games, Kaiju Cats and Coding Cookies, since the game-based assessments are the first step and come before any human conversation.
