01 / For every Revolut candidate
The process, start to finish.
Revolut hires for engineering, product, data and business/operations roles. This playbook covers the software engineering track (mostly Java backend), which has the most public reporting, and adds the Bar Raiser round that appears on Revolut's team pages and in candidate reports. Revolut's own engineering careers page lists four steps (intro call, tech interviews, team fit, offer). Its Java interview prep post lists five stages (recruiter interview, live coding, technical interview, system design, team fit and offer).
A Revolut senior recruitment manager described five stages in 2024 (recruiter call, coding assessment, tech conversation, system design, team fit). An archived Revolut Senior Java Backend Engineer listing adds a Bar Raiser interview before a product team meeting, and Revolut's business development and credit team pages name a Bar Raiser stage before team fit. Candidate reports and prep guides add a HackerRank assessment, an occasional take-home task and a Bar Raiser of about one hour that some accounts place last.
Expect roughly 4 to 6 stages. A 2023 Revolut post for risk and compliance roles says 5 or 6 stages over about 4 weeks, guides range from about 2 to 6 weeks, and one 2026 new grad waited three to four months between applying and the recruiter contact. Revolut's Java one-day-offer postings promised an offer within 24 hours of the technical interview.
Revolut does not publish a per-round rubric, but its careers page says it hires, develops and promotes people based on five published values (Never Settle, Dream Team, Think Deeper, Get It Done, Deliver WOW), and these are listed here as the framework. The live coding and technical rounds are reported as practical rather than puzzle-heavy, although the online assessment uses LeetCode-style problems.
Reports describe production-quality code with tests, sometimes in framework-free Java, and concurrency and database transactions come up repeatedly, the account-to-account money transfer above all. The format changes by region, level and team: Revolut's team pages tell candidates to check details with their recruiter, and a Java one-day-offer posting says the sequence may vary by location.
Stage 1: Recruiter call
about 30 minutes
A high-level fit check with an IT recruiter covering your experience, career goals, tech stack, motivation for Revolut and pay. Revolut's recruiter says candidates should ask their own questions too. Guides give 15-30 or 20-30 minutes, and Glassdoor reports from senior engineers mention some simple Java or SQL questions in this call. It is usually first, but the HackerRank test can come before it (see next stage).
Stage 2: Online coding assessment (HackerRank)
varies
The Revolut recruiter lists a coding assessment as the second stage, and Revolut's Java one-day-offer postings list a HackerRank task. Guides say HackerRank, covering data structures and algorithms and SQL, sometimes with logic puzzles. One 2026 new grad had two easy coding problems plus multiple-choice algorithm and picture-based IQ questions. No source gives a duration, and the content differs between the reports and guides. Order varies too: eFinancialCareers and TechPrep put it after the recruiter call, while the 2026 new grad and the Java one-day-offer postings put HackerRank before it. Revolut's engineering careers page lists no assessment stage, and its Java prep post names HackerRank only as a practice site for live coding.
Stage 3: Take-home assignment (not always given)
varies
Not every loop includes it, and guides say some teams use it. Time estimates conflict: TechPrep says 4-8 hours of work and a Jobrise guide says 2-4 hours. One 2019 London backend candidate built a REST money-transfer API with any framework except Spring, had about a week to submit and then waited about a week for review. In that report it came before the technical discussion, where the solution was walked through. TechPrep instead places it after live coding and says it is followed by an architecture review session. Neither Revolut's engineering careers page nor its Java prep post mentions a take-home.
optional
Stage 4: Live coding
45-60 minutes
Revolut's Java prep post describes live coding in Java with real-time challenges that test problem-solving, coding efficiency and Java fundamentals while you explain your approach. Reported tasks are practical: a load balancer class or a thread-safe money transfer, written as production-ready code with unit tests, sometimes in plain Java without Spring. A 2021 report gives 45 minutes, and two guides give 45-60 minutes. A 2023 Glassdoor report from a Madrid senior engineer describes TDD pair coding on a service registry with follow-ups on concurrency. The Revolut recruiter describes one tech conversation with more coding, so some loops may combine this stage with the next.
Stage 5: Technical interview
varies
Revolut's Java prep post describes conceptual questions plus hands-on problems on concurrency, databases (indexing, query performance, transactions) and architecture (microservices, domain-driven design, event-driven design). The Revolut recruiter describes this stage as a bit more coding plus discussion of technical skillsets and remits. Reported follow-ups include database concurrency, isolation levels, optimistic locking, debugging a slow service and DDD/CQRS. A 2021 senior candidate had two technical rounds, and a 2023 Madrid report describes a final technical interview with two interviewers. Revolut's engineering careers page groups it as tech interviews. No source states a duration.
Stage 6: System design
about 60 minutes
eFinancialCareers quotes the Revolut recruiter calling this the boss level of the process and describes it as a much more applied technical challenge than the previous stage. Revolut's Java prep post describes designing a scalable, distributed system and balancing performance, reliability and scalability. The 60-minute figure comes from a single prep guide. Reported prompts are fintech-flavoured (payments, wallets, multi-region data sync), and a Glassdoor report from a Barcelona senior engineer also lists a system design round.
Stage 7: Bar Raiser
about 1 hour
Named as a stage on Revolut's business development and credit team pages and in an archived Revolut Senior Java Backend Engineer listing, where it follows system design and precedes a product team meeting. eFinancialCareers calls it the last stage of the process, and the 2026 Product Manager report ends with it. It is a behavioural review of your career history and measurable impact, which guides say is often run by a senior leader from outside the team. eFinancialCareers gives one hour and one coaching guide for business roles gives 45-60 minutes. Revolut's engineering careers page, its Java prep post and the 2024 recruiter description list no Bar Raiser, one guide merges it with team fit and another calls it optional, so whether it is a separate round for engineers varies. None of the Bar Raiser accounts cited comes from a software engineer.
optional
Stage 8: Team fit interview
about 30 minutes
Described by the Revolut recruiter as a 30-minute "speed date" with the product owner or head of the department you would join. Revolut's engineering page describes it as connecting with potential teammates to align on work and culture, and its Java prep post says to share how you work, handle conflict and uncertainty, and what excites you about Revolut. The archived Java listing calls it a product team meeting, and one guide lists a hiring manager interview. Where it sits relative to the Bar Raiser differs between sources.
Stage 9: Offer or decision
varies
Revolut's engineering page lists the offer as the last step, where you review compensation and benefits. Speed varies by team and region. Revolut's Java one-day-offer postings promised an offer within 24 hours of the interview, and say the exact sequence may vary by location and scheduling. One 2026 new grad got a rejection about one day after the final round, and each round before the last had been scheduled the same day as the previous one. A 2019 candidate heard about a week after the technical discussion.

04
Get It Done
05
Deliver WOW
Revolut publishes five values on its culture page (https://www.revolut.com/our-culture/), listed there as Never Settle, Dream Team, Think Deeper, Get It Done and Deliver WOW. Its careers page (https://www.revolut.com/careers/) lists the same five in a different order and says it operates, hires, develops and promotes brilliant people based on them. Revolut does not publish a per-round scoring rubric or say which round tests which value.
Its Rev-celerator interview tips post (https://www.revolut.com/blog/post/10-top-tips-to-ace-your-rev-celerator-interviews/), written for internship and graduate candidates, ties Get It Done to taking initiative, Never Settle to going beyond expectations to develop new skills, Deliver WOW to showing specific results, and Think Deeper to asking thoughtful questions. A teamwork section of the same post asks for stories of collaboration and overcoming conflicts but does not name Dream Team there.

Candidate reports say values and measurable impact matter throughout the process, and a general 2026 guide describes a culture fit round that assesses the five values. Revolut's Java interview prep post does not name the values.
03 / Coach's notes
Coach's tips.
01
Treat live coding as production work, not a puzzle. Reports ask for production-ready code with unit tests and edge cases handled, sometimes in plain Java (8+) with Spring banned, and Revolut's Java prep post tells candidates to review data structures, SOLID principles, testing practices and multithreading. Ask which language and framework rules apply before the round.
02
Drill concurrency on the account-to-account money transfer until it is automatic. It recurs from 2019 to 2026, and a 2026 new grad was rejected after writing a deadlock with a read-write lock. Lock both accounts in a consistent order, explain optimistic versus pessimistic locking, and be ready to move the same logic into database transactions and isolation levels.
03
Expect banking-domain vocabulary in technical follow-ups and system design: DDD, CQRS, multi-region data sync, slow-service debugging. Revolut's Java prep post names domain-driven design, microservices and event-driven architecture as technical interview topics. A 2026 new grad who could not define DDD and CQRS was rejected after that loop, though the report does not say why.
04
For the Bar Raiser, prepare a role-by-role walk through your career with a number attached to each role. Have answers ready for how your manager would rate you, why you left each job, and whether your employer tried to keep you. The QuantumLight hiring playbook, as reported by eFinancialCareers, treats vague or over-rehearsed answers as a negative. Most reported Bar Raiser questions come from non-engineering roles, so treat them as a guide to the style, not a script.
05
Revolut's careers page says it hires, develops and promotes people on five values. Its interview tips for internship and graduate candidates link Get It Done to taking initiative, Never Settle to going beyond expectations to develop new skills, and Deliver WOW to specific results. Prepare at least one quantified story for each value.
06
Use the recruiter call as a two-way conversation, as Revolut's recruiter recommends. Have a specific answer to why Revolut, tied to its products, and a clear answer on your pay expectations ready.
07
Ask your recruiter which stages apply to your role and level. Revolut's own team pages say the process may vary by role, and sources disagree on whether the Bar Raiser comes before or after team fit and whether the HackerRank test comes before the recruiter call.
