01 / For every Typeform candidate
The process, start to finish.
Typeform is a Barcelona-founded SaaS company behind conversational forms and surveys, hiring largely for remote roles across Europe plus some US roles. This playbook covers product engineering (software engineers, senior engineers and engineering managers), because that is the only track with usable public evidence; product management, sales, marketing, finance and customer success loops are not publicly documented.
Typeform does not publish an interview evaluation rubric or scorecard on its careers page or in a live Greenhouse job posting (which lists only responsibilities, qualifications and application fields). It does publish four company values on its careers page, and a 2022 Berlin engineering-manager candidate report states the recruiter shares those values in the first call, so they are listed here as published company values rather than as a stated interview framework.
The most useful primary source is Typeform's own engineering blog post from August 2025 describing how it rebuilt the technical interview for an AI-native world: the exercise is a slice of a real Typeform problem, and candidates may use their own laptop and IDE, Google, Stack Overflow and AI tools including ChatGPT, Claude Code and v0.
The evidence used here spans eleven distinct Taro candidate interview reports (2019 to 2025) across software engineer, senior software engineer, backend engineer, senior front-end developer and engineering-manager roles, plus the two official Typeform blog posts. Loops run three to four rounds and vary by role, level and region: individual-contributor loops reported in 2025 run recruiter call, one technical exercise, then two separate behavioral calls (leadership, then product); a 2022 senior-engineer loop in Bogota instead runs system design, then a coding round, then a cultural-fit interview with the hiring director; engineering-manager loops (Berlin, France, London, all 2022) consistently add a system design round with two engineering managers and a separate people-management round.
Glassdoor and Indeed, which likely hold the largest volume of Typeform interview reports, are not covered here, nor is Reddit, so word-for-word question coverage outside the official blog and the eleven candidate reports remains thin.
Stage 1: Recruiter or talent-team intro call
varies
Multiple reports describe an initial recruiter or talent-team call as the first step, for both individual-contributor and engineering-manager roles. A 2025 Barcelona software engineer report lists it as the first of four rounds. A 2022 Berlin engineering-manager report describes the recruiter sharing Typeform values, background on the product, expectations for the role, and a preview of the remaining rounds. A 2022 London engineering-manager report describes a screen with two internal recruitment-team members rather than one recruiter. A 2022 France engineering-manager report and a 2024 UK senior-engineer report both describe a recruiter chat as the first step, with the France report noting the recruiter had been working directly with Typeform. No source states a length for this call, and who runs it (one recruiter, two, internal or external) varies by region.
Stage 2: Practical technical exercise
about 1.5 hours for the 2025 AI-native exercise (one report); not stated for older variants
Typeform's own August 2025 engineering blog describes the current technical round as a slice of a real Typeform problem, framed as a mini-project rather than a 45-minute algorithm puzzle, with the candidate's own laptop, IDE, Google, Stack Overflow and AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude Code and v0 all allowed. A 2025 Barcelona software engineer report matches this: a real use case, create an app using AI, with about 1.5 hours to complete it. Older, pre-redesign reports describe different formats for the same slot: a Codility challenge followed by a separate one-hour interview and a live React coding challenge (Senior Front End Developer, Barcelona, 2024); a live coding session with two engineers on React logic and CSS styling (Software Engineer, Italy, 2020); pair programming in an online IDE on exercises similar to Typeform's own product (Software Engineer, Spain, 2022); and a combined test case plus infrastructure-design whiteboard exercise (Backend Engineer, Barcelona, 2025). No source says whether these older formats still run alongside the 2025 AI-native version.
The 1.5 hour figure and the AI-native format come from a single 2025 candidate report corroborated by Typeform's own blog; the Codility, live-coding and pair-programming variants each come from a single report dated 2020-2024 and may predate the redesign.
Stage 3: System design or architecture round (senior IC and engineering-manager tracks)
about one hour per round in one 2022 engineering-manager report; not stated elsewhere
A senior software engineer report from Bogota, Colombia (2022) lists a system design interview as the first of three stages, where the candidate proposed solutions for a real-world problem the company was facing. Three separate 2022 engineering-manager reports (Berlin, France, London) each describe a technical system design round run with two engineering managers, covering scalability, reliability and design trade-offs; the France report states this round and the two that follow each ran about an hour. A backend engineer report from Barcelona (2025) describes an infrastructure-design round run as a shared whiteboard exercise, explicitly meant to reveal the candidate's thinking rather than just the final answer. Not reported for junior individual-contributor loops in any source, and round order is not consistent across reports: the Bogota loop places system design before a separate coding round, while the engineering-manager loops place it after the recruiter screen and before people management.
Stage 4: Behavioral round focused on leadership
varies
A 2025 Barcelona software engineer report lists a behavioral call focused on leadership as the third of four rounds. A 2022 Berlin engineering-manager report describes a final behavioral round covering leadership, 'world-class engineering', attitude, and motivation for joining Typeform, and recommends answering in STAR format. No source gives a length, and for engineering managers this round is reported as separate from, and later than, the people-management round.
Stage 5: Behavioral round focused on product, plus culture fit
varies
The same 2025 software engineer report lists a fourth-round behavioral discussion emphasizing product considerations. A 2022 Spain software engineer report describes culture fit interviews as the final step after the technical test. A 2022 Bogota senior software engineer report ends its three-stage loop with a cultural-fit interview run by the hiring director rather than the immediate team. Length is not stated in any source.
Stage 6: People management round
about one hour in one 2022 reportEngineering-manager track only
Three separate 2022 engineering-manager reports (Berlin, France, London) each describe a dedicated people-management or people-leadership round, distinct from system design and from the final behavioral round. The Berlin report describes it as scenario-based, covering execution and delivery, collaboration and teamwork, knowledge sharing, and ethics and values. The London report describes it as run by a member of the people-experience team. Reported only for engineering-manager roles.
Stage 7: Decision and offer
varies
Engineering loops in the candidate reports run three to four rounds and end in mixed outcomes: the 2025 Barcelona software engineer accepted an offer and called the process very straightforward and transparent, as did all three 2022 engineering-manager reports and the Bogota senior-engineer report, while the 2024 UK senior-engineer and Barcelona front-end reports and the 2020 Italy report ended without an offer. Typeform's own blog, published December 13, 2024, says the company cut its process from five steps to three core stages plus an optional fourth interview, and states it hired 62 people in the two quarters before publication at an average of 20.1 days, 43 percent faster than the company's original benchmark of 35.7 days (a figure the same post dates to its early growth phase, around 2015). The 20.1-day figure is therefore itself a 2024 result, not a 2015-2016 one; no source confirms whether that rate still holds as of 2026.
The 20.1 day figure describes hiring in roughly the two quarters before the post's December 13, 2024 publish date, measured against a 2015 baseline of 35.7 days; it is dated (nearly two years old as of September 2026) and is not a published ongoing SLA, but it is a 2024 figure, not a 2015-2016 one.
A tag is the condition given in brackets in the stage name.
02 / What Typeform scores
Typeform values (careers page)
01
Move as one team
02
Champion customers
03
Build strong bonds
04
Hold high expectations
These four items appear exactly as published in the values section of Typeform's careers page. Typeform does not publish an interview rubric, scorecard or competency model anywhere public, and a live Greenhouse job posting contains no process content either, so no question below is linked to these values.
The reason they are listed here at all is that a 2022 Berlin engineering-manager candidate report states the recruiter shares Typeform values, product background, role expectations and a preview of the remaining rounds in the first call, so candidates are likely to hear them named. Treat these as published culture language to reference, not as a documented scoring framework.
Read the rest of the framework notesShow less
The official careers wording for each item is: "Move as one team" (seamless collaboration and collective wisdom toward strategic goals), "Champion customers" (anticipate needs, prioritize challenges, partner to exceed expectations), "Build strong bonds" (credibility through connections grounded in respect and transparency), "Hold high expectations" (relentless pursuit of the greatest measurable value through a culture of excellence).
Separately, the Berlin engineering-manager report describes a people-management round scored on "Execution & Delivery", "Collaboration & Teamwork", "Knowledge Sharing" and "Ethics & Values", and a final behavioral round on "Leadership", "World-Class Engineering" and "Attitude". These are candidate-recalled round themes for one report, not confirmed as an official rubric anywhere else, so they are not listed as the framework and no question is mapped to them.
