01 / For every RBC candidate
The process, start to finish.
RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) hires across several distinct tracks. RBC's careers pages list programs in Capital Markets, technology, wealth management and personal and commercial banking, and rbccm.com lists Corporate and Investment Banking, Global Markets and other client solutions including Research as RBC Capital Markets business areas. The student program page on jobs.rbc.com names a Capital Markets Program covering the RBC Capital Markets Global Investment Banking Program and the Global Markets Program.
This playbook covers the RBC Capital Markets student and analyst track (summer and full-time analyst), since that is the finance track candidates most often prepare for. Final Round AI describes the retail track as a shorter path of online application, aptitude tests, a recorded video interview and a hiring-manager interview.
For Capital Markets, the process reported by multiple prep guides is: online application on jobs.rbc.com, an online assessment on some paths, a one-way recorded video interview (HireVue), a first-round live interview mixing technical and behavioral questions, then a Superday of roughly 3 to 5 back-to-back interviews of about 30 minutes each (in London, one guide describes a full-day assessment centre instead).
Design Gurus counts four to six steps for RBC overall, and total timelines in the guides range from about 2 to 10 weeks depending on where each guide starts counting. RBC does not publish an interview process, stage list, evaluation framework or rubric: the RBC pages cited (jobs.rbc.com student and program pages, rbc.com/careers, rbccm.com campus recruiting, the Future Launch tips) describe none.
RBC's values page and its March 2026 Code of Conduct list five values (Client First, Integrity, Collaboration, Respect, Excellence), and the Code says vacant positions are staffed on business needs, candidates' merits and RBC Values, but neither presents the values as an interview scoring rubric, so no framework is included here. Some prep sites list an older set of values.
Evidence quality is weak: the process details and questions come from commercial prep sites, not from Glassdoor, Wall Street Oasis or Indeed candidate reports. Some of those sites sell AI practice tools or mix candidate reports with generated practice material, and RBC's own official pages give only generic interview tips.
Stage 1: Online application (jobs.rbc.com)
varies
Resume and division/track selection. Extern and Finbound advise applying within the first one to two weeks of a posting; Finbound and Intervyo describe rolling review, and Finbound adds that competitive Capital Markets listings can fill interview slots before the formal close date. Timing varies by region, program and cycle, and the guides conflict: Intervyo describes US summer analyst applications opening in January or February of sophomore year, while Extern expects Summer 2028 investment banking postings around October to November 2026 and says eligible candidates are rising seniors. WikiJob, a general RBC graduate guide, says selected candidates are contacted within about 10 working days. Check the live posting on jobs.rbc.com for the actual dates.
Stage 2: Online assessment
varies; about 45 minutes and a 3 day window in a general RBC graduate guide
Reported as cognitive, numerical/verbal reasoning and/or situational judgment tests. The 45 minute and 3 day figures come from WikiJob's general graduate guide, which does not separate Capital Markets from other tracks; Final Round AI also gives a 3 day window. Intervyo names an Aon (cut-e) gamified cognitive suite plus a chat-based situational judgment test with a 48 to 72 hour completion window. 24practice lists test types (cognitive, situational judgment, personality questionnaire) without durations. Not every Capital Markets path includes it: Finbound's HireVue guide says the video usually follows the online application and resume screen, and that some Canadian co-op and London paths put an online assessment first.
Varies by division and region
Stage 3: Recorded video interview (HireVue)
20 to 40 minutes; about 4 to 5 questions, about 30 seconds prep and 90 seconds to 3 minutes per answer
One-way recorded questions on motivation (why RBC, why this division), teamwork or conflict, and occasionally a commercial prompt. Extern, Final Round AI and Design Gurus report no re-records. Finbound notes that RBC does not publish a universal timer, so the invite is the authority, and that durations and question counts come from candidate reports.
Stage 4: First-round interview (phone or video)
30 to 60 minutes
Guides disagree on length and interviewers: Extern says 60 minutes (about 30 behavioral and 30 technical) with one to two analysts or associates; Final Round AI says 45 to 60 minutes split roughly 50/50 with two to three analysts and associates; Superday AI and Intervyo say a single 30 minute call with a VP or Associate. Technical topics named include accounting, DCF and valuation (Extern) and EV/EBITDA multiples, DCF mechanics, LBO structure and statement links (Final Round AI).
Stage 5: Superday (final round)
3 to 5 back-to-back interviews of about 30 minutes each
Interviewers range from associates and VPs up to directors and MDs. Session counts differ by guide: Intervyo says 3 to 4, Extern and Design Gurus say 3 to 5, Final Round AI and the body text of the Superday AI page say 4 to 5, and that page's header says 4 to 6 sessions and a full day of 8 to 12 hours. About 30 minutes per session is given by Final Round AI, Superday AI, Intervyo and Design Gurus; Extern notes RBC does not publish the format. Final Round AI says technical and behavioral questions appear in every session; Design Gurus says behavioral questions appear in every session; Superday AI describes a mix of technical, behavioral and market awareness questions and says some groups, with energy and mining coverage named as examples, may add a brief modeling exercise or case study. Session count and format vary by group and office.
Stage 6: Assessment centre (London alternative to Superday)
full day, about 08:30 to 17:30
One prep guide describes a London day of case presentation, competency panel, modeling test or markets simulation, group exercise, technical interview and a senior MD interview. The guide cites anonymised attendee accounts that could not be verified, says it is not affiliated with RBC, and paraphrases exercise scenarios rather than quoting questions.
London only; single prep-site source
Stage 7: Offer and decision
24 hours to 2 weeks after the final round
Extern and Superday AI say one to two weeks (Extern: verbal first, then written, and it places the overall decision window at two to three weeks); Intervyo says 24 to 48 hours after the Superday. Total length depends on the guide and where it starts counting: Final Round AI gives about 4 to 8 weeks from first interview to offer for Capital Markets, Extern gives 6 to 10 weeks from application to offer, Superday AI's overview page gives 2 to 4 weeks, and Design Gurus gives about 2 to 8 weeks from application to decision across RBC roles.
