01 / For every Dell Technologies candidate

The process, start to finish.

Dell Technologies hires for engineering, sales and other functions. This playbook centers on the software engineering track (including campus and early-career hiring), which is the best documented in public sources, with brief notes on sales roles. Candidate reports describe a funnel that varies by channel. Campus drives go from resume shortlisting to a written test, one or two technical rounds, and a managerial and HR conversation (3 to 4 rounds).

The one detailed experienced-hire report (Philadelphia, 2021) has a recruiter call, a technical phone screen and three onsite rounds. Technical rounds mix LeetCode easy-to-medium coding with core CS fundamentals (OOP, OS, DBMS/SQL, networking) and questions on resume projects; that experienced-hire report included a system design question. Managerial rounds cover past projects, team fit and behavioral topics, and are called pretty easy in one 2025 report but included technical questions in a campus report.

Dell publishes its Culture Code values (Customers, Winning Together, Innovation, Results, Integrity) but does not publish, on any available page, a scoring rubric showing how they are applied in interviews. The official jobs.dell.com hiring-process pages were unavailable (the careers site redirects to a platform that returned an HTTP 502 error), so process details rest mainly on candidate reports and prep guides, most of them from India campus and early-career hiring.

One prep guide says the role interview for sales roles can include a sales role-play, but public evidence for the sales track is thin and editorial.

Stage 1:

Application and resume screen

1-2 weeks (one guide); about 4-5 days in one campus report

Online application or campus shortlisting. Timing varies by channel (campus drive vs. direct application) and role. One campus report says shortlisting was mostly based on projects and skills, and that CGPA was not the only criterion (7.5 CGPA was the eligibility floor, and some 8.5 CGPA students were not shortlisted).

Stage 2:

Recruiter phone screen

about 30 minutes (30 minutes to 1 hour per one guide)

Direct-application and experienced hiring. Covers background, motivation, reasons for leaving your current job, location and logistics. The campus reports do not mention this stage. Salary is reported inconsistently: a 2021 Philadelphia report says salary was not discussed, while a 2025 Poland report and one guide list salary expectations as a topic.

direct-application and experienced hiring; not mentioned in campus reports

Stage 3:

Online assessment / written test

about 60 minutes in campus reports

In campus and early-career reports it follows resume shortlisting and comes before any interview: 50 MCQs in 60 minutes covering aptitude plus core CS (OOP, Java/C++, SQL, DBMS, OS, networking, data structures), and one report adds digital electronics. An older fresher guide lists aptitude, verbal and programming sections. For experienced hires, one editorial guide describes an asynchronous HackerRank test (coding plus CS multiple choice, no duration given) after the recruiter screen, while the 2021 experienced-hire report mentions no test and one guide notes that Dell job requisitions describe no company-wide written test. Confirm with the recruiter whether one applies to your team.

mainly campus and early-career; mixed for experienced hires

Stage 4:

Technical interview(s)

30-60 minutes each in the reports that state a length; 1 to 2 rounds in campus reports, 3 in one experienced-hire report

Coding on a shared editor or screen share (LeetCode easy to medium), CS fundamentals (OOP, OS, DBMS/SQL, networking) and detailed questions on resume projects. The 2021 experienced-hire report had a 1-hour technical phone screen plus two 1-hour onsite technical rounds, including a system design question and a database modeling question. One guide says each interview session lasts 1 to 2 hours.

Stage 5:

Managerial / hiring manager round

30-60 minutes

Past projects, skills, team and company culture, and behavioral topics such as teamwork and conflict. Some campus reports say it also includes technical questions. One November 2025 Bengaluru report calls it a pretty easy managerial round. In one campus drive it was merged with the HR round for 30 minutes.

Stage 6:

HR round

varies

General questions (tell me about yourself, why Dell, strengths and weaknesses, expectations). Sometimes merged with the managerial round (30 minutes in one campus drive). Varies by campus vs. experienced hiring: the 2021 experienced-hire report ends with a manager round and no separate HR round.

Stage 7:

Decision and offer

about 1 week after the final interview (one guide); total about two weeks in one experienced-hire report

Campus drives can run every round in a single day. Overall length varies by role, region and hiring channel, and guides disagree: one says interviews span 2 to 3 weeks, while an editorial guide that cites no official page gives 3 to 5 weeks end to end (3 to 6 weeks in its FAQ).

The five value names and the count come from the official Dell Global Operations brief (delltechnologies.com), which lists them under "Our Culture Code" with a one-line belief statement each. The brief cites 2022 rankings and its file metadata shows a 2023 modification date, so it dates from about 2022 to 2023. The brief describes them as company values and does not say how they are scored in interviews. The jobs.dell.com Culture Code page (how-we-work-and-lead) was unavailable (HTTP 301 then 502).

Search-result summaries of that page list the same five values plus a separate set of leadership principles (the summaries disagree on how many); those summaries are unconfirmed, so this list covers the values only. Use the values as themes for behavioral stories, not as a confirmed interview rubric.
