01 / For every Amplitude candidate
The process, start to finish.
Amplitude is a product and marketing analytics platform (product analytics, session replay, heatmaps, feature experimentation, guides and surveys, data governance, plus a set of AI features it markets as Wave, Agents, Amplitude MCP, AI Feedback and Agent Analytics), per its own company page. Its Greenhouse board lists open roles across Engineering (AI Foundation, Data, Digital Analytics, Growth, Infrastructure, Statsig and others), Product (Management, Design, Growth), Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, People and Finance.
This playbook covers the track Amplitude is best known for, technical hiring: software engineering with a heavy data infrastructure and analytics slant, with secondary coverage of product management and of the analytics and SQL questions reported for data roles. Sales and customer success questions surface in some of the aggregator sources and are flagged where used.
Amplitude publishes its own hiring process as a PDF linked from amplitude.com/careers, which is unusual and makes the stage names in this playbook reliable; the seven stage names and descriptions below match it word for word. That document names seven stages: Application review, Phone screen interview, Hiring manager interview, Pre-onsite interview (role-specific), Panel interview (onsite or virtual), Final interview (onsite or virtual), and Decision and offer. It explicitly says that "steps and roles may differ" by role.
It does not publish durations for any stage; every duration below comes from third-party coaching sources and is labelled as such. Amplitude does publish a values list on its careers page, and the official hiring document ties the final interview to "alignment with Amplitude's mission and values", so those four values are included as the evaluation framework with names exactly as Amplitude publishes them.
Amplitude does not publish a scoring rubric, competency ladder or interviewer guide, so the framework is a values list and not a graded rubric. Total rounds in practice run about five to seven touchpoints, and third-party guides put the end-to-end cycle at roughly three to four weeks. Reported engineering loops centre on event ingestion, funnel and cohort query performance, and behavioural analytics at very large data volumes rather than on pure algorithm puzzles.
Stage 1: Application review
varies
Official Amplitude wording: a recruiter and hiring manager review the application and resume to assess whether skills, experience and qualifications match the role's requirements. Amplitude states up front that steps and roles may differ by role, so treat the seven stages as a template rather than a fixed loop. Amplitude also warns that legitimate open roles require applications submitted directly on its Greenhouse page. No duration is published.
Stage 2: Phone screen interview (recruiter)
about 30 minutes reported; about 45 minutes reported for the new grad PM track
Official wording: the recruiter confirms qualifications and learns about background, career goals and availability, and it is the candidate's opportunity to discuss expectations and ask about the company and role. Duration is not published by Amplitude. One coaching source reports a 30 minute recruiter phone screen to verify skills and experience; a new grad PM write-up reports a 45 minute recruiter screen covering resume relevance and basic product understanding, including whether the candidate understands Amplitude's product. Duration varies by track and seniority.
Stage 3: Hiring manager interview
about 1 hour reported
Official wording: the hiring manager goes deeper into technical expertise and relevant experience, assessing how skills align with the role, with questions about problem solving ability and potential contributions to the team. Amplitude publishes no duration. A coaching source describes a series of one hour interviews with the potential manager and cross-functional team members.
Stage 4: Pre-onsite interview (role-specific)
about 60 minutes reported for the engineering coding screen; about 60 minutes reported for the new grad PM technical phone; 90 minutes reported for the new grad PM product case
Official wording: for some roles this stage may include assignments or technical assessments, plus interviews with team members to evaluate hands-on expertise before the onsite. For engineering, third-party guides report a 60 minute coding phone screen at medium to hard data structures and algorithms level, and separately an online assessment or remote coding challenge. For new grad PM, one write-up reports a 60 minute technical phone about a recent project and a data driven decision loop, then a 90 minute product case presented to senior PMs and engineers and centred on Amplitude's analytics platform. Whether this stage happens at all, and in what form, varies by role and team.
role-specific: confirm with the recruiter which pre-onsite format applies to your loop
Stage 5: Panel interview (onsite or virtual)
varies; reported as three to four interviews, and as a full day for the new grad PM track
Official wording: team members, peers and leaders interview the candidate, focusing on capabilities, teamwork and cultural fit. Amplitude publishes no duration or round count. Coaching sources report three to four onsite interviews covering coding, system design and behavioural; one guide reports a virtual onsite of five distinct round types (two coding, one system design, one craft deep dive, one behavioural) and describes the loop as data-pipeline-heavy with a deep system design focus on event ingestion, real-time aggregation and cohort/funnel/retention query performance at scale, though it does not state a single total round count elsewhere on the page or make an explicit comparison of system design weight against algorithm weight. Another guide reports three to four rounds covering coding, data systems design and product thinking. The new grad PM write-up reports a full day onsite or virtual with a hiring manager behavioural interview, a cross-functional design simulation and a committee debrief. Round count and mix vary by role, team and level.
Stage 6: Final interview (onsite or virtual)
varies
Official wording: this final interview is designed to confirm alignment with Amplitude's mission and values while letting the candidate address remaining questions, and is typically conducted by the hiring manager or executives from the team. This is the stage where the four published values are most directly in play. A coaching source similarly reports an executive interview for senior positions to assess strategic thinking. Amplitude publishes no duration.
Stage 7: Decision and offer
varies; two coaching guides put the whole process at about three to four weeks, and a new grad PM write-up separately reports about three weeks for that track
Official wording: the hiring team reviews feedback and makes a final decision, and a successful candidate receives an offer. Amplitude publishes no turnaround time. Two coaching guides state the overall cycle is three to four weeks. A new grad PM write-up separately describes that track's whole process as a four round, three week gauntlet. Treat the three-to-four-week and three-week figures as reports about different tracks rather than a single confirmed number. One coaching source describes reference checks as the final step before the offer, though Amplitude's own document does not list a reference check stage. Timing varies by role, team and how many panellists must be scheduled.
Reported interview time, one scale in minutes
Where the minutes go
- Phone screen interview~30 to 45 min
- Pre-onsite interview~60 to 90 min
Not drawn: Application review, Hiring manager interview, Panel interview, Final interview and Decision and offer, whose durations are not given in minutes.
02 / What Amplitude scores
Amplitude's values
01
Humility
02
Ownership
03
Growth mindset
04
Customer Centricity
These four names are exactly as published, including capitalisation, on Amplitude's careers page, where each carries a one line description: Humility ("We operate from a place of empathy and openness and seek to understand many points of view"), Ownership ("We take the initiative to solve problems that drive our shared company success"), Growth mindset ("We're tenacious in the face of challenges and seek feedback in order to grow ourselves and others") and Customer Centricity ("We put the customer at the center of everything we do").
They match amplitude.com/careers as of September 2026. They are treated as the evaluation framework because Amplitude's own published hiring process document ties two stages to them: the panel interview focuses on "capabilities, teamwork, and cultural fit", and the final interview is "designed to confirm alignment with Amplitude's mission and values". Amplitude also runs quarterly Value Award Winners and annual Founders' Awards recognising employees who embody these values. Important limits. This is a values list, not a published scoring rubric.

Amplitude does not publish per-value behavioural anchors, interviewer guides, level expectations or how the values are weighted against technical signal, and no source states that interviewers score candidates value by value. Do not treat it as an Amazon style leadership principles rubric. Questions below are tagged with a value only where the question plainly probes the wording of that value; most technical questions carry no tag.
