01 / For every Slalom candidate
The process, start to finish.
Slalom (also known as Slalom Consulting) is a Seattle-headquartered business and technology consulting firm with about 12,000 employees per Wikipedia. Its own who-we-are page describes consultants who live where they work, and My Consulting Offer says consultants work on engagements in their home city rather than on weekly travel. This playbook covers the consultant track it is best known for (business, data, technology and Salesforce consulting, with levels from Associate Consultant to Principal Consultant per Final Round AI).
Slalom Build, its product engineering unit, is not covered, and no public source describes a Build-specific interview loop. Sources describe 3 to 5 rounds. A recruiter (Talent Acquisition) screen comes first. Then come interviews with client service leaders, starting with the hiring manager and moving up. Some roles add a role-specific technical or skills round and a case study.
For some roles the case is a take-home that you present and defend in a round-table discussion, while My Consulting Offer says Slalom does not do classic case interviews and other guides describe a live candidate-led case, so sources conflict. Coaching sites and a 2018 Blind poster place a Principal, Practice Area Director, Managing Director, General Manager or Partner conversation at or near the end.
Sources say the format depends on office, role and hiring manager, and a 2017 Blind commenter tagged as Slalom Consulting (an unverified company badge) wrote that each office operates independently. Reported totals are 3 to 5 weeks, but one 2022 candidate reported two months of interviews followed by a hiring freeze. Slalom publishes ten core values. Its values page says nothing about hiring or scoring candidates, so no evaluation framework is recorded here.
Slalom also publishes a candidate AI policy: AI may be used to prepare, but candidates should not use AI to generate or reference answers during live interviews unless told or agreed otherwise, and candidates may not record or transcribe interviews. Slalom's official pages describe no interview stages. First-hand candidate evidence is thin, and no material from Glassdoor, Indeed, Fishbowl, Wall Street Oasis or Hacking the Case Interview is included.
Most question wording therefore comes from coaching sites, and two of those (Road to Offer and Final Round AI) overlap and are not independent of each other.
Stage 1: Recruiter / Talent Acquisition screen
30 minutes
Screening for fit with the role and interest in Slalom: resume walk-through, why Slalom, role alignment. My Consulting Offer calls it a screening interview to determine your fit for the role and says you can use it to judge whether Slalom fits you. CaseBasix, Road to Offer and Final Round AI state 30 minutes, but the last two overlap. The original poster of the 2017 Blind thread, repeating what they had read online, expected an HR interview first.
Stage 2: Hiring manager interview (behavioral and experience)
60 minutes
The first of the client service leader interviews. My Consulting Offer says later interviews are with different client service leaders, starting with the hiring manager and moving up, and focus on who you are, your experience and how you would fit the team and culture. Road to Offer calls this a manager interview with behavioral questions plus a short case or problem-solving question. Final Round AI says a Senior Consultant or Principal conducts this 60-minute round. The 60-minute figure comes only from Road to Offer and Final Round AI, whose stage tables match and which are treated as one line of evidence. A 2017 Blind commenter tagged as Slalom Consulting described two conversations with the same director, then one with a principal consultant, and said the process varies by office.
Stage 3: Technical or skills assessment
variesRole-dependent
Length and format vary by practice and role. Final Round AI says data engineering, cloud architecture, AI consulting and Salesforce implementation roles add a scenario-based technical assessment between the manager and case rounds, and describes it as not an algorithmic coding screen. My Consulting Offer describes technical skill-based interviews that are typically with the hiring manager or team or practice leadership. A November 2018 Blind poster described the next steps as a skills assessment, then a case study, then an MD or Practice Area Director interview. A 2019 Blind commenter (tagged Veritas) answering about Salesforce consultant roles described a couple of Solution or Technical Architect rounds before the case. A July 2022 Blind poster (Associate Consultant, DA practice) called their technical round a case study asked in fragments. Data engineer reports on Data Driven (2021 to 2025) describe phone and technical screens on data modeling, SQL, Python and Spark, including a coding problem. Road to Offer's stage table has no separate technical round.
Stage 4: Case study (take-home or live, presented to interviewers)
about 60 minutes live; take-home reportedly gives 48 to 72 hours to prepare
Sources conflict on the format. My Consulting Offer says Slalom does not do classic case study interviews and instead uses experience interviews, technical skill-based interviews and take-home case studies for some roles. CaseBasix says most Slalom case interviews are candidate-led and that written take-home cases are less common than live ones. Road to Offer lists a 60-minute candidate-led case round; Final Round AI puts a 30 to 40 minute case inside its 60-minute round, and Road to Offer gives 30 to 40 minutes for Slalom cases in a general section. Those two guides overlap. Take-home: you build slides with a recommendation, present them, then have a round-table discussion where you are challenged and given feedback (My Consulting Offer). Road to Offer and Final Round AI give a 15 to 20 minute presentation, and Final Round AI adds 10 to 15 minutes of Q&A. CaseBasix says written cases are increasingly used for mid-level and experienced hire roles, and Final Round AI ties them to some senior and technical roles. Candidate reports describe a case study in the technical round that the candidate found not too challenging, asked in fragments (2022, Associate Consultant, DA practice), a data visualization case with limited data (2017, while another 2017 commenter said there was no formal case), and a Salesforce case study you present and then answer questions on (2019).
Role-dependent: not every role gets a written case
Stage 5: Final leadership conversation (Principal, Practice Area Director, Managing Director or Partner)
30 to 45 minutes
Road to Offer calls it a Principal or Partner conversation on strategic fit and leadership examples. Final Round AI calls it a leadership conversation on fit and trajectory, not a case, with questions on how you would contribute to the local market. CaseBasix says final rounds with directors or partners focus on business cases and cultural fit, so sources conflict on whether a case appears. The interviewer title differs by source: Principal or Partner (Road to Offer), Practice Director, Managing Director or General Manager (Final Round AI), directors or partners (CaseBasix). A November 2018 Blind poster described the process as ending with an MD or Practice Area Director interview. My Consulting Offer names the later stages practice leadership and engagement leadership without describing them. Duration comes from Road to Offer and Final Round AI only, which overlap.
Stage 6: Decision and offer
usually within 1 week of the final round
Final Round AI gives about a week from final round to decision and 3 to 5 weeks overall. My Consulting Offer gives 3 to 4 weeks from application to decision and says candidates usually hear back within a week after each round. A November 2022 Blind poster (Security or Senior Consultant, Denver market) interviewed with five people over about two months, was given a tentative start date, and was then told about a hiring freeze, so totals vary with demand and interviewer availability.
