The process, start to finish.
PJT Partners is an advisory-focused investment bank. Its site names Strategic Advisory, Restructuring & Special Situations and Fund Advisory (where it presents PJT Park Hill) as business lines, and its Expertise menu also lists Integrated Client Solutions. Third-party guides concentrate on Strategic Advisory (M&A) and the restructuring group, which they call RSSG, so this playbook covers the investment banking summer analyst and analyst track as those guides describe it.
PJT's student careers page lists four stages: Explore, Application Selection, Interview and Offer Decisions. Applicants must complete a Suited AI assessment, and PJT says it is not weighted more than other evaluation factors. PJT describes its interviews as structured and says they assess aptitude, potential and cultural fit, with questions on broad industry understanding and interest, corporate finance fundamentals and behavioral competencies. The page does not state the number of interviews, their length or who conducts them.
PJT also calls its Summer Analyst and Summer Associate programs generalist, with no placement into a specific business, and says it typically hires most of its full-time class from its internship programs. Third-party guides describe what usually comes next: a first round of roughly 20-45 minutes with an analyst or associate that opens on technical questions, sometimes a second interview or a case study, and then a Superday of roughly 3-6 back-to-back interviews with bankers up to partner.
London may use an assessment center instead of a Superday. Two guides say restructuring runs a separate recruiting process from M&A, and one of them adds that it has the harder technical bar. That does not match PJT's generalist description, and the guides do not reconcile the two. Two guides also say restructuring questions may come up in interviews for other groups.
PJT publishes four firm values on its careers page (The Values We Value) and says its interviews consider the values that define success there. That is the closest thing to a public evaluation framework, though PJT does not publish a scoring rubric. Candidate-written evidence is thin, with none drawn from Glassdoor or Wall Street Oasis, so most process detail comes from prep-site guides.
Stage 1: Explore
varies
PJT's student page lists this as the first of its four stages. It tells candidates to research the firm and industry, attend on-campus or virtual events, take coffee chats and use alumni networks, and review PJT's expertise pages and investor presentation. The page gives no duration; timing depends on the program and region.
Stage 2: Application and Suited assessment
about 35 minutes for the assessment (about 20 minutes untimed psychometric plus a 15 minute timed cognitive section, per one guide)
PJT calls this stage Application Selection. Online application through PJT careers, plus the Suited AI assessment, which PJT's page says is a required part of the application (PrepLounge describes it as included in some applications; PJT's wording is used here). Recruiters and professionals review applications and choose who to interview. PJT says it looks for well-rounded candidates with strong and interesting academic backgrounds, curiosity and industry knowledge. Application windows differ by program, for example US Summer Analyst opens in spring of the prior year, US Summer Associate opens in early fall and closes in December, and Europe and Asia Summer Analyst open in September and close in October.
Stage 3: First-round interview
20-45 minutes (PrepLounge says 20-45, Aced says 30-45)
Phone or video interview with an analyst or associate. Guides describe it as unusually technical for a screen. One guide says it opens on technical questions; another says to expect immediate mental math, a quick resume walkthrough and behavioral questions. Topics reported include accounting, valuation, merger math and debt ratios, and one guide says some rounds use exercises such as building a simple DCF. London and EMEA may add a recruiter screen before it. For RSSG, one guide says this is often a technical phone screen, and the same guide says acceptance into a diversity program can bypass the first round of technical screens.
Stage 4: Second interview (some loops)
varies
One guide says only some loops include it. It is another analyst or associate conversation that mixes behavioral and technical questions, and that guide does not state its length. Another guide says there are one or two rounds of interviews culminating in a Superday. No source says which offices or groups skip it.
Stage 5: Case study (some loops)
24-48 hour take-home window, or 30-60 minutes of on-site prep followed by a presentation (per one guide)
One guide says case studies are common at the Superday stage and that the interviewer pressure-tests assumptions live. Another says some Strategic Advisory Superdays include a case study and a markets round, while RSSG tests with in-interview exercises such as waterfalls and simple models. A third says some Superdays include a live financial test or short modeling exercise. In London a modeling case is part of the assessment center. Not every loop includes one.
Not reported in every loop; mostly from third-party guides
Stage 6: Superday (or London assessment center)
3-6 back-to-back interviews, each about 30 minutes per one guide (sources differ on the count: 3-5, 4-5 and occasionally 6, or 4-6). One guide lists the day as 8-12 hours.
Interviewers range from analysts and associates up to VPs, MDs and partners. Superday AI describes the first 2-3 interviews as heavily technical with an emphasis on restructuring mechanics, strongest for restructuring-focused candidates, while M&A-focused candidates get valuation and merger mechanics. It then describes an M&A and advisory discussion and a cultural fit meeting with a senior MD or partner. PrepLounge says senior rounds lean on business judgment, deal rationale and cultural fit, and that interviewers compare notes afterward. London may run an assessment center instead, with a modeling case plus competency and technical interviews.
Stage 7: Offer decision
within about one week of the Superday (one guide), or same day to a few days (another guide); 2-3 weeks end to end (one guide) or about 9 days from application in the fastest loops (another guide)
PJT says offers go to candidates who showed strong potential across the attributes that predict success in the role, and that it typically hires most of its full-time class from its internship programs. Timing figures are from third-party guides, not PJT, and they disagree.

Published on https://www.pjtpartners.com/careers under the heading The Values We Value. The section names exactly four values and no others. The same page says: Our interviews consider both the professional demands and the values that define success here. Character covers protecting the firm's reputation, operating with the highest level of integrity and contributing to firm culture. Content covers best in class advice through differentiated domain expertise. Collaboration covers learning from each other and leveraging capabilities across the firm.
Client Relationships covers partnering with clients and gaining their trust. PJT does not publish a scoring rubric. Separately, the student careers page (https://www.pjtpartners.com/careers/students) says the structured interview assesses aptitude, potential and cultural fit, and that questions test broad industry understanding and interest, corporate finance fundamentals and behavioral competencies.
