How L.E.K. Consulting Interviews in 2026: Process, Questions & What They Score
Compiled from 19 public sources: candidate interview reports, coaching guides, and L.E.K. Consulting's own hiring pages. Interview processes change and vary by role, team, level, and region. This is one well-documented shape of L.E.K. Consulting's interviews to prepare against, not a script of what your interview will be. Confirm specifics with your recruiter. SupaCV is not affiliated with or endorsed by L.E.K. Consulting.
L.E.K. Consulting is a global strategy consulting firm, and this dossier covers the track it is best known for: generalist strategy consulting hires (Associate at the undergraduate level, Consultant at the MBA and experienced level), including its heavy commercial due diligence and life sciences work. It does not cover specialist data science or corporate function roles, which are recruited separately and are far less documented publicly. L.E.K. publishes very little about its process. Its official Apply page confirms only that selected candidates attend "several rounds of interviews, which include both case studies and questions about your professional background," that "both quantitative and strategic cases are possible," that in general there will be "a mixture of experiential and case interviews," and that the format varies by region and level. Its official Interview Preparation page confirms case-based interviews and lists seven in-case tips plus three worked practice cases. Everything more specific in this dossier (round counts, interview durations, written case mechanics) comes from consulting coaching sites and candidate reports, and those sources disagree on several points, which is flagged per stage. L.E.K.'s currently live careers pages (Apply, The L.E.K. Difference, Roles at L.E.K.) describe culture and role duties but name no titled list of criteria candidates are assessed against. A further search beyond those pages found that L.E.K. did publish one: a page titled "What We Look For" listing five named candidate attributes with one-line descriptions, live with HTTP 200 as recently as 2025-11-10. Its live URL now 301-redirects to the general careers page (re-verified live on 2026-09-06), and the same text is absent from every current careers page checked directly (Apply, The L.E.K. Difference, Roles at L.E.K., Interview Preparation, The L.E.K. Career), so its live status today is uncertain. This dossier reports it from an archived copy of the official page rather than a page fetched live today, and flags that caveat throughout. It is separate from the Apply page's list of what the interview process is meant to achieve, which states the purpose of the interviews rather than the dimensions a candidate is scored on, so that objectives list is still not treated as the framework. The two features that most distinguish L.E.K. from peer firms in candidate reports are the candidate-led case format (you drive the structure and the next step rather than being handed prompts) and the written case exercise in the final round, where you work through a data packet alone and then present slides and defend them.
The Process
- 1
Online application (CV/resume, cover letter, application questions) · varies
Applications go through L.E.K.'s online system, where candidates create an account, upload a CV and answer a set of application questions. L.E.K. states officially that it reviews every application and that candidates may submit an application to only one of its global offices per year, so office choice is a one-shot decision each cycle. Recruiting season dates vary by region and L.E.K. does not publish them. One coaching source estimates fewer than 30% of applicants are invited to interview; that figure is unverified by the firm.
Screen-out rate is a coaching-site estimate, not a firm-published number.
- 2
Online assessment (aptitude tests or game-based digital assessment) · varies
Sources disagree sharply on what this stage is, and it appears to vary by office and level. One account describes an SHL-built battery of logical, numerical, situational judgement and verbal reasoning tests taking 30 minutes to an hour depending on how many are administered. Another describes a short game-based 'L.E.K. Digital Assessment' of simple, intuitive games such as mental math and pattern recognition taking about 10 minutes, introduced in 2020. A third describes a numerical reasoning test plus a verbal component. One guide states the test is not universal and that candidates should treat their invitation as the source of truth. Confirm the format and timing from your own invitation.
Format varies by office and level; three mutually inconsistent descriptions exist across sources.
- 3
Recruiter or HR screening call · about 20 minutes
A short call covering background, motivation and basic fit, with questions such as 'Tell me about yourself' and 'Why are you interested in consulting?'. On refetch this stage is supported by only one of the two originally cited sources (a second, usjobmaster.com, does not actually mention a phone or HR screening step and was removed as a citation for this stage). Treat it as optional rather than standard; other accounts move straight from assessment to first-round interviews.
Reported by only one fetched source; may be skipped in some offices and for some entry points.
- 4
Round 1 interviews (fit plus candidate-led cases) · 2 to 3 interviews of about 30 minutes each
Each interview blends a short fit or background section with a candidate-led case. The pairing most commonly reported is one quantitative case, often market sizing, and one qualitative or strategic case. One L.E.K. employee blog describes exactly this split: 'one focusing on case strategy and one that was more quantitative. There were also some background and behavioral questions.' Within a 30 minute slot, sources report roughly 20 minutes on the case and 10 minutes on behavioral questions. Interviewers at this stage are typically associate and consultant level.
One source (preplounge.com) instead describes a single 'super day' with two interviews in the morning and two in the afternoon rather than separated rounds; this citation was missing from the flag in the prior draft and has been added.
- 5
Final round interviews with senior managers, principals and partners · 2 to 3 interviews of roughly 30 to 45 minutes each, with some accounts reporting sessions up to 60 minutes
Same structure as round one but with more senior interviewers and harder, more complex cases grounded in real business scenarios. An L.E.K. employee blog describes the second round as interviews with partners and principals containing a mix of quantitative and behavioral questions. mconsultingprep.com reports oral cases of 30-45 minutes within this round, while caseround.ai reports a 30-60 minute range across rounds generally. Interview count varies by office and level.
Durations reported range from 30 to 60 minutes; sources disagree on 2 versus 3 interviews.
- 6
Written case exercise and presentation ("experiential" interview) · about 60 minutes of analysis, then roughly 20 minutes presenting and 10 minutes of Q&A
L.E.K.'s signature stage, usually attached to the final round. You are given a data packet, work alone to filter it, form a hypothesis and build slides, then present to an interviewer or panel and defend your reasoning. Sources agree on roughly 60 minutes of prep and a presentation plus Q&A, and describe an output of roughly 7 to 10 slides. They disagree on packet size: one reports an information pack of 15 to 20 pages with only 10 minutes of reading time, others report a dense packet of 40 to 50 pages, and one gives a range of 15 to 50 pages varying by office and level. One assessment guide describes the same thing as an 'experiential' stage involving 'a 60-minute written exercise and a presentation'. L.E.K.'s own official Apply page independently uses the identical word, stating its rounds include 'a mixture of experiential and case interviews' alongside quantitative and strategic cases; this is official, if thin, corroboration that a distinct experiential/written stage exists even though the firm gives no further detail about its mechanics. Not confirmed as universal across all L.E.K. offices, and mconsultingprep.com describes it as one of three interviews bundled into round two rather than a separate later step.
Packet size and reading time conflict badly across sources (15-20 pages versus 40-50); presence of the stage as a separate step (versus bundled into round two) is not confirmed for every office.
- 7
Decision and offer · varies
Sources conflict on end-to-end length. One reports about three weeks from first contact to decision with final-round outcomes in one to two weeks. Another reports a total process of two to three months with roughly 14 days between steps, and states unsuccessful candidates wait 12 to 18 months before reapplying. L.E.K. publishes none of these figures.
Timings conflict by roughly an order of magnitude between the two sources; the 12 to 18 month reapplication figure comes from a single source and is not corroborated elsewhere. A prior draft of this stage referenced an unnamed 'third source' disputing the reapplication period; on refetch neither cited source nor either roadtooffer.com page makes that claim, so it has been removed as uncited.

Live URL at time of research (2026-09-06): https://www.lek.com/join-lek/apply/what-we-look-for, which returns HTTP 301 and redirects to https://www.lek.com/careers (re-confirmed live on 2026-09-06). Content verified via the Wayback Machine archive at https://web.archive.org/web/20251110111637/https://www.lek.com/join-lek/apply/what-we-look-for, a snapshot confirmed live with HTTP 200 on 2025-11-10 (and present in earlier 2025 snapshots too). Intro text: "Our dynamic, fast-paced work environment puts a premium on teamwork, communication, flexibility and creative thinking. We don't use a rigid checklist. We look for a combination of attributes that provide a solid foundation for a successful consulting career at L.E.K." The five items and their full descriptions, in the order published: Outstanding academic achievement - "Do you race up new learning curves, delight in complex problems and strive for fresh insight?"; Analytical ability - "Do you quickly identify the heart of a problem, draw insight from rigorous analysis and use data to support unexpected solutions to difficult problems?"; Demonstrated leadership - "Do you inspire and motivate others? Leadership can take many forms, whether through school, work, extracurricular experiences or other passions."; Collaborative approach - "Do you share facts and insights and interact effectively with different personalities and cultures? The ability to work effectively with a team is key to your success at L.E.K."; Intellectual curiosity - "Do you have a passion for learning? At L.E.K., learning happens every day." As of today the same text does not appear on any other current careers page checked directly by fetching raw HTML (Apply, The L.E.K. Difference, Roles at L.E.K., Interview Preparation, The L.E.K. Career), and the site's URL structure has otherwise moved from a "/join-lek/" prefix to a "/careers/" prefix, consistent with a recent site redesign. Treat this as the most recently confirmed officially published framework, not a currently live one; a future check should re-verify whether it has reappeared under a new URL.

Coach's Tips
Work L.E.K.'s three official practice cases first. The interview preparation page on lek.com publishes an airplane brainteaser, a 'Brewery Profits' case and a 'Large Pharma Co.' sizing and pricing case. These are the only cases the firm itself endorses, and the pharma case tells you how central life sciences and pricing work are to L.E.K.
Drive the case yourself. L.E.K. cases are candidate-led: you propose the structure, choose the next analysis and ask for the data, rather than being walked through prompts. Practicing only interviewer-led cases will leave you waiting for instructions that never come.
Take the firm's published instruction to 'Come up with an answer' literally. L.E.K.'s own in-case tips are: 'Take your time', 'Gather your thoughts', 'Stick to your approach', 'Ask questions', 'Formulate hypotheses', 'Come up with an answer' and 'Be yourself!'. Hedging or trailing off without a recommendation contradicts explicit guidance the firm published.
Over-index on market sizing and mental math. Market sizing is reported more frequently at L.E.K. than at peer firms, one of the two round-one interviews is usually the quantitative one, and candidates report dense calculations with non-round numbers. Practice estimating out loud, stating each assumption as you make it.
Rehearse the written case (L.E.K.'s own term is 'experiential' interview) as a triage exercise, not a reading exercise. You get roughly 60 minutes with a data packet (reports range from 15 to 50 pages) to produce about 7 to 10 slides, then present for around 20 minutes and defend for another 10. Decide in the first few minutes which three or four exhibits actually answer the question, write slide headlines as conclusions rather than labels, and ignore the rest of the pack.
Choose your office deliberately, because L.E.K. states you may submit an application to only one of its global offices per year. Confirm your specific format from your invitation as well: the firm says the process varies by region and level, and the online assessment in particular is described three different ways across sources.
If you can point to leadership and teamwork stories on demand, do so: L.E.K. published a page called 'What We Look For' naming five attributes (outstanding academic achievement, analytical ability, demonstrated leadership, collaborative approach, intellectual curiosity) as recently as late 2025. It is not confirmed live on the site today, so treat it as a strong signal of what the firm values rather than a guaranteed current rubric.
